In Downsizing, Norwegian scientists discover the ability to shrink people down to just a few inches. And in a society where we are more and more focused on the environment, this offers certain solutions to environmental issues, for example: Less pollution, less waste production and less overcrowding. For the average person however the most appealing factor to getting ''downsized'' is more affordable living, with everything becoming cheaper as it is smaller.
Downsizing truly is one of the most creative and original ideas in films in the last few years. An idea which is as thought-provoking as it is funny. A film that seems like a rollercoaster of genre’s, at some points we’re on the concerning heights with the drama and the next second we’re racing down the steep rails with the comedy segments… However, it’s very much a rollercoaster without loops. The simplicity is apparent, even though it’s still a nice journey served to us by Matt Damon’s simple-minded character. An on-rails cinematic adventure with great visuals and fun elements throughout. Although fun and reasonably entertaining it felt somewhat empty as a whole, the plot serves as a nice background but is without much substance. Many questions are raised but seldomly answered which doesn’t make the movie worse it just could’ve been a lot better with proper backing in the script.
With the wide array of problems this film has, it is still quite recommendable for the average viewer.

Verdict
For such a creative idea, the end result is awfully generic. Opting for a personal storyline instead of investigating the main plot point.
